Journaling: I am hardly ever satisfied with the photos made of me. I just don’t look good in them. But once in a while, one turns out to my liking. Journaling: We both love to take pictures of old cabins. The older the better. I am always on the look-out for them. Will be out driving around with hubby and all of a sudden yell stop. First time I did that he about had a heart attack. “Don’t you do that when I am driving down the freeway” he yells at me. Now he looks for them also. I guess he does that to avoid the trauma of when I yell “stop.” The only difference between Reka and me is that she is in Italy and I am in California. No matter where we are the cabin fever is with us. DMD_Grandmother's House_OldIron_Alpha Elements: 1. Paper Flowers by Rin@, 2. Tag 5 by Happyscrappy, 3. Stitching by Amanda Rockwell, 4. Journaling: Once upon a time there was a young girl who had just graduated from college and was gathering experience so she could eventually open her own restaurant. Her best friend told her one day that their family was getting a visit from a young Italian man who was studying orchardry. She asked if the young girl could take him under her wing while her friend was busy. They looked forward to him coming – Ahh! An Italian man! What would he be like? Just think of that dark hair, those dark eyes, that romantic Italian accent! Finally, August arrived, and with it, Eduard. EDUARD??!! Not Eduardo? And he was blond, blue-eyed, and had more of a German accent??!! But the girl took him under her wing anyway. Conversation was difficult, but since she knew Spanish, and he really could speak Italian (though that too with a German accent), they understood each other. She had afternoons off, so she showed him more of the place she lived in than just the apple trees he was there to learn about. Their conversations deepened, and things happening around them, including a sinking boat, faded deep into the background. When the time came to for him leave in mid-October, well, he didn’t. He lingered until mid-December, when his parents insisted he come home for Christmas. Many letters as well as phone calls made in the dark of the night because of the time difference followed his departure. They missed each other. Spring arrived, the season of fancies turning, and the young girl decided to leave her dissatisfying job and visit the young man waiting for her in the middle of the Alps. She quit her job, packed a suitcase, and hopped on an airplane to Italy, leaving friends and family behind. The reunion was a happy one, and the two floated on air. Among their friends and families, others were skeptical. “You are going to let her marry an ITALIAN?” many asked the girl’s parents. But they trusted her judgment and stood up for her. The other side was worried about the influence this American girl would have on their traditional values. But they hoped for their son’s happiness. And the two floated on air. A proposal of marriage was made and accepted in the fall, an apartment was found, and the two were married the following summer in Italy (a whirlwind relationship which convinced the traditionalist natives that there was a shotgun pointed in the wings…). The transition was not easy for either one, but twenty-four years and two children later, after many trials and joys, they are still in love. And still floating between periods of having their feet firmly planted on the ground. And both families have gained a new member they love and are proud of. Moral of the story? Don’t be afraid to follow your heart… Vintage Papers Skies 17 by Nicole Kaltenecker (NBK the Leaf), House element from The Maltese Scrapper, B. Vosburg Crown 2 Stamped

Journaling: It was 1976 and I was fifteen. I remember so well the moment when our cousin drove his jeep up to the pond where my sister and I were swimming and asked us to come with him. I was devastated to hear that you, my 11 year older brother who was becoming one of my best friends, had chosen to leave this life. I spent many years in denial, never having seen your body– I would see the back of a head in a crowd and, convinced it was you, run ahead to look for your face. I cried whole pools of tears, wishing you back with us. But it’s funny…the anger phase of grief has somehow finally hit me now, 33 years later, remembering you and the relationship we had begun when you decided your pesky little sister wasn’t so little or pesky anymore and was turning out a lot like you. Our kids ask about you and I tell them of your love of photography and nature, your talent for computers and your sense of humor, all things I share with you. And it makes me so mad that you didn’t stick around to meet my husband and children, to see the wonderful place I now live in, to introduce me to the family you would have loved to have had. So mad. And I miss you even more. Journaling: After my miscarriage, we weren’t sure we would be able to have any children. We were so happy when three months went by the next time without complications. Just when we thought everything was safe, bleeding kept me to my bed many times for a few months. Then everything settled down again. You surprised us again when my water broke in the 35th week and made a C-section necessary. But you came through with flying colors and only needed a short time in the incubator before you spent most of your day on the warmth of my breast, all two kilos of you. When the priest came in to bless you, he didn’t even realize you were there, under the covers. you were so tiny. And we were so proud to be your parents! Journaling: How did you meet your husband?I was dating Martin’s brother who had just graduated from high school, I was a senior. One day we had to go to Sunnyvale to pick up his brother from his sister's. Martin walked into the house and I knew from that moment that we were destined to be together. He would go everywhere with his brother and me and we would somehow always end up together. Needless to say a few months later he and I were dating. Believe me when I say I got the better of the twins!!!What do you love most about him?Martin is a very caring and thoughtful person, with me, with his family and others. What is your pet peeve regarding your husband? He always thinks he is right about everything and will very seldom admit when he is wrong!!!What is your secret for a lasting, happy relationship?I think one success to our marriage was the fact the first 24 years he was in the Air Force and flew all over the world. He was gone more than he was home. So the time we had together was even more special. He was an adventure junkie so to speak but when he was home he spend all his time with me and the kids. But I think being able to talk is the most important thing in any relationship. If aliens came to take your husband away, would you offer them the new 5D MarkII he gave you to leave him here? I would have to think about it but yes I would. Just kidding. Of course I would.
