Dinner in the Making

Dinner in the Making

A 3-exposure HDR image of a rice paddy in Changwon in mid-July. The plants are a very brilliant green at this point, but the rice kernals have not yet started to develop. Rice requires a flat area filled with water to grow properly so on a slightly sloped hill such as this, you can see the earthen dams and the raised tiers as you move back toward the hills.

Dream Park Cascade

Dream Park Cascade

Heavy rains here on Sunday; after all, it is the middle of the monsoon season. Rains stopped for a few hours in the afternoon, so I went out to Jinhae Dream Park where there are several nice mountain streams. I used a 2-stop ND filter and a polarizer to take this image. I think I am starting to get the hang of the idea of shooting silky water; this was a 13 second exposure at f/16, ISO 200.

Fourth of July 2012

Fourth of July 2012

The US Navy Base in Jinhae is on the far side of this mountain. I found a spot across the bay about a mile away from the base and on the wrong side of the mountain where I thought I might be able to catch some reflections.

The Painter

The Painter

A Korean artist being creative while hanging around at the office. This shot was taken from my living room window.

Pine Cone Watching the Moon

Pine Cone Watching the Moon

While preparing to take a shot of the night sky and water at Jinhae Bay, I found this lone pine cone lying on the deck; I moved it to the rail to allow it to get a better view of the moonset.

The Don-D

The Don-D

My new toy was delivered today. This is my kind of transportation! I'm gonna learn to like sitting behind the wheel of this baby. Wait a minute, where am I? I must have dozed off there for a moment!

Kayaking with Dad

Pink Hat & Bubbles

Pink Hat & Bubbles

May 5 was Children's Day in Korea and, as usual, my company, Doosan, hosted an all day festival for employees and their families. I found this young lady in a pink trying to make some very large bubbles. It isn't easy as she discovered.

Horse in Oils

Horse in Oils

May 5 was Children's Day in Korea and, as usual, my company, Doosan, hosted an all day festival for employees and their families. One of the events was a horse and carriage ride, a favorite of the kids. This is one of the horses assigned to pull one of several carriages. Processed in Pixel Bender.

Bridging the Abyss

Bridging the Abyss

Looking down the pedestrian bridge from JeoDo Island to the District of Masan in Changwon City. At one time this was a vehicular bridge; only one car could fit. I drove across this bridge years ago; scary, to say the least.

Jinhae Station

A Ride With Dad

A Ride With Dad

A cold afternoon in Korea, but this dad has rented a bike from one of the many bike rental stations in the city to take his son for a ride along the bike path at Jinhae Bay.

The-Reason-For-The-Season

The-Reason-For-The-Season

Christmas lights set in a traffic rotary in Jinhae.

Autumn-On-Fire

Autumn-On-Fire

Normally the autumn season in the southern part of Korea does not produce the most brilliant autumn foliage so I was surprised to find this area, especialy so late in the season. This image was taken December 3rd. The autumn foliage was backlit by the setting sun and, being a windy day, the leaves were moving so much that it created a truely brilliant explosion of color. Inland Waters Eco Park, Jinhae, Korea.

Great-Egret

Great-Egret

I captured this bird at the Junam Wetlands Park, the largest migratory bird habitat in South-East Korea, just north of the city of Changwon.

The-Foreboding-II

The-Foreboding-II

Another nude...OK, semi-nude...sculpture at the Gyeongnam Art Museum, Changwon, Korea.

The Foreboding

The Foreboding

The latest set of sculptures in front of the Gyeongnam Art Museum. The nude in the foreground is 4 to 5 meters tall. Background was created by replacing the sky with one with more ominous clouds and using a combination of color & gradient adjustment layers and blend modes.

Desktop Surfing

Desktop Surfing

Ever wonder what your printed images do on your desktop at night while you are sleeping?

Ravine Suspension Bridge

Ravine Suspension Bridge

A cable suspension bridge on the trail from Anmin Gogae (pass) toward Ungsan (Mt. Ung) spanning a rather deep ravine between mountain peaks. The District of Jinhae can be seen in the distance. It took me 5 hours to reach this point from the start of the trail at the top of Anmin Gogae and 4 hours to return. My feet were complaining at the end of the day.

Korean-Totems 600

Korean-Totems 600

He's back there, isn't he? lurking in the shadows staring at me with those buggy eyes and that quirky looking grin of his? I hate when he does that; I tell ya, he's a little too weird if you ask me!

Target Is In Sight

Target Is In Sight

OK, so here I was on the back of this butterfly with my camera in hand when he and his buddy decided it was lunch time. Do you have any idea how scary it can be to go from 1000 meters to ground zero in less than 2 seconds?

Andong-Mask-1

Andong-Mask-1

Every year the city of Andong, Korea, holds its Mask Dance Festival. One of the events is the Creative Mask contest where participants create inventive new masks in which the 'Minister of Culture and Tourism' awards prizes. This one caught my eye.

Autumn-Garden

Autumn-Garden

An image taken this past weekend at a small Changwon City Flower Park.

Eye-on-Korea

Eye-on-Korea

A close up of a large bronze sculpture at the Gyeongnam Art Museum in Changwon. I thought it might make a great cover image for my 2011 Eye on Korea photo book.

GAM-Entrance

Entrance to the Gyeongnam Art Museum in Changwon. The left half of this image is the actual entrance viewed from the side; the right half is a reflection of the entrance from the glass facade of the Art Museum building itself.

Wind-Surfing

Wind-Surfing

It was a warm but gray Sunday with a shore breeze blowing off the mountains. Students from the local sailing school were out learning the finer points of windsurfing. Their colorful sails stood out against the backdrop of Jinhae Bay.

Kids Stuff

Q - How do you keep cool in the city on a hot August day? A - Splash in the waters of a nearby cold mountain stream.

Apache Entertainment

Apache Entertainment

Catching up on some past work, I found this image of another member of the Apache troop performing at the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival from last April. I bought one of the CDs they were selling; excellent music with flutes, panpipes, drums and vocals; very relaxing.

GeoGa Bridge at Dusk

GeoGa Bridge at Dusk

Yesterday I made the trip to Geoje Island (Pronounced ko-jay) on the new Busan-Geoje Island Fixed Link. This a 5.1 mile bridge-tunnel connection between the city of Busan and Geoje Island; it includes 2 large bridges and an undersea tunnel. This largest bridge between Geoje and Joe islands is a 1 mile long, 3-pylon, cable-stay bridge. The 2 main spans are 750 ft long, the pylons are 355 ft tall and there is 118 ft of clearance under the main spans. I arrived at this location 3 hours before sunset and decided to wait to get this shot. It was like watching the grass grow, but glad I waited.

Cherry Blossom Blizzard

Same location as the previous image but during the day. A gust of wind created this spring blizzard.

Help

by Dennis, 25 Mar 2008 (13:35 UTC)
Joe, I stumbled across this website/gallery. I'm interested in presenting simple family photos in a more dynamic way using photoshop elements. Do you have any tutorials so I can create similar presentations? Any resources you can provide would be helpful. THanks. Dennis

Hi Dennis,
We have a forum of Elements and Photoshop users associated with these galleries and also sponsored by PrestoPhoto , located at http://www.photoshopcreativeelements.com where many of us share comments, tutorials and general creations of our own. Why don't you join us there? There is also a whole series of over 200 video tutorials and on line training seminars on http://www.photoshopelementsusers.com. The videos are free, but the online training costs a nominal amount. Thanks for the comments on my Gallery.
