Understanding Book Binding

Viovio offers three types of book binding.

Perfect binding (Softcover)

Our perfect bound photo books are constructed on a computer-controlled adhesive binding machine, which produces high-quality adhesive bindings. Our perfect bound process rivals the strength and flexibility of sewn books. Covers are laminated and pages are hot-glued to the cover, which is ideal for all of our on-demand products.

Case binding (Hardcover)

Our casewrap photo books are constructed using the highest quality pre-cut casewrap boards and also are bound on a computer-controlled adhesive binding machine. The casebound binding service offers a spine lining sheet which is applied inside the front and back cover and secures the fold over of the cover sheet. Covers are laminated and pages are hot-glued to the cover, which again is ideal for all of our on-demand products.
  • Quick binding Viovio's quick binding service is available for hardcover books. This service offers creators a reasonably priced, durable and attractive binding option that is easy and fast. Covers are laminated and pages are hot-glued to the cover for a durable spine. The case wrap cover is designed to hold between 20 and 126 pages. Production time is 7 business days and available ship methods are USPS, UPS or FedEx. Here is a picture of quick binding.
  • Pro binding. Viovio's Pro binding service is also available for hardcover books. This service takes the quick binding service to the next level by notching the spine pages which increases the spine surface area for gluing. The case wrap cover offers a variable spine width so your page count will determine the size casewrap used to bind your book. This results in a more professional look to your books, and an upper page count of 186 pages. Production time is 14 business days and available ship methods are USPS or UPS.Here is a picture of pro binding. The professional binding option is an additional $3.99 per book.

The Quick Bound hardcover is professional and similar to Pro binding with two differences - black end-leafs and the spine is not as tightly adhered to the casewrap. Perhaps this can be best seen in spine width

Wire-O

The wire-o binding service is used for 11x8.5 calendars, the 12.5x10 hardcover, and the 14x11 portfolio products. It is a strong square wire spine that does not spiral out of the pages with use. This durable binding option allows your book to lay flat on a table to display your work.

Saddle-Stitch

The saddle-stitch binding option is used for our softcover books of less than 20 pages. The binding is stapled because there are too few pages to actualy bind with the glue process. This is a durable binding option because the spine is stapled with industrial quality staples.

I've spent an awful lot of time trying to upload and getting images in the
correct order, finally succeeded. I hope. I sized most of the images to
fit a 8x11. but now when I go to purchase it doesn't offer that with the
images wrapped cover, just the die cut fabric cover, or else it wants to
resize it.
What's up?

Does anyone know of a publisher that will publish a children's board book or cloth book? Thanks.

Soft cover perfect binding

by A Hawley, Thursday 22 of May, 2008 [11:48:55 UTC]
Hi, I can't find any pictures of the soft cover binding. I'm interested in
the 6x9 inch soft cover portrait book and would like to see some close up
images. Are there any images on the site?

I found a really close view of the hardover, but this was the closest I found for the softcover one.

I assume there is a price difference between quick and professional binding on hardbacks. After looking for 20 minutes I cannot find this information. Where should I be looking? Thanks.

There is an additional charge of $3.99 for the pro binding.

links incorrect

Upon trying to view examples of each type of binding, your linked photos don't help. There is no discernable difference between the images of the 2 hardcover bindings, and the softcover binding images link shows photos of square hardcover books. I'm sure there are links somewhere else or forum posts, but the info should be much easier to find! Please streamline the site!!!

Denise, thanks for the input. We added text to each image to more clearly explain what you are viewing.

Wire-O

I'm still not clear about bindings. I want to make a calendar in the 8.5 x 11 format, but I need to know if I can get a Wire-O binding on that size. And if so, what are the margins?

The calendar is 11x8.5. The wireo binding is on the top 11" side and a pre-drilled hole for hanging is located on the opposite (bottom) 11" side. I would make your images 11.25x8.75 and keep all important items away from the outer 1/2" on all sides
