. . . Select the cover image?

To choose the cover image, begin on your gallery page. you will see a row of icons in the upper right hand of the screen. Select the image order icon (gray circle with a "1,2") on it. Once on the Image Order page there are three main columns: Thumbnail, Title and Position, and Miscellaneous. In the Miscellaneous column there are four options for each image: Gallery Image, Favorite Image, Batch Select, and Position. Select Gallery Image for the image you want as your cover. Then scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save Changes. When you create your photo book this image will be the cover, and this can be changed anytime you want.

. . . Arrange the order of my images?

Again, begin on your gallery page and select the Image Order icon (as described above). Once on the Image Order page under the Miscellaneous column there is a position box where you may type a number. Simply enter the numbers according to the order you would like your images to appear in your photo book. Then scroll to the bottom and select Save Changes.

Adding captions and descriptions is done on the Edit Image page. To get to this page begin on your gallery page, then select the image to which you wish to add the caption and description. From this page you will notice the Edit Image icon in the upper right corner (piece of paper with a pencil). Select it. You are now on the Edit Image page. From this page you can enter a caption into the Title box and a description into the Description box. After you finish typing your caption and description, scroll to the bottom and select Save Image. When you create your photo book, in order to have these captions and descriptions appear in the book select the Advanced option. Select Smart Captions and aPrint Detailed aImage Pages. With Smart Captions pages will display your image centered with a white margin and the caption and description directly below the image.

. . . Print my cover image inside my book?

The default setting for all photo books is to NOT print a gallery page (similar to a title page) as the first page in your book. If you wish to have your gallery image also print inside your book, select this option. To do this you must first click the Order Photo Book icon on your gallery page. Step 1: Select Book Options, will be the first page you visit. On this page the last opiton listed is Print Gallery Pages. This box is NOT selected by default. You must select this box if you want the gallery page to appear in your book.

. . . Layout multiple images on one page?

We offer a really cool multi-up feature that allows you to specify from one to 48 images on a single page. The option is selected during the first stage of the book maker process. Here is an example of two images to a page.

I forgot to mention one intermediate step between iPhoto and VioVio; the photos in the VioVio file on the desktop are run thru Photoshop prior to upload to tweak for publication on paper - which is why I use the desktop folder. Each tweaked photo is renamed in the folder. I renumber after upload, leaving lots of gaps so I can insert photos in the sequence later. Your idea sounds good. I could probably reverse save the Photoshopped pics in iPhoto and export - but if I overload iPhoto, it runs very slowly.

I find using the export (under File menu) works great for uploading individual images. I create an album, put the photos in the order I want them, then export the album and use the naming features of the export to rename the files with consecutive numbering. I then and a "0" in front of the single digit filenames in Finder so Viovio will sort them correctly (instead of pairing photo2 with the 20s). zip them up and upload (You can create a .zip by selecting all your files in the Finder and right-clicking (or control-clicking) and selecting "Create archive" from the pop-up menu).

Due to the volumes and volumes of pictures that I take (many of which are varying exposures and angles of the same subject) I have found that the easiest way to make sure I transfer ONLY the photos I want - and ALL of the photos I want - is to drag copies of them from iPhoto into a folder on my desktop. I usually lable it "VioVio to Upload" and add the date. This way I also make sure that I don't inadvertantly delete anything from my iPhoto library, thus erasing it from all iPhoto galleries.

Hi Gloria-
A couple questions first--have you created an iPhoto book that you want Viovio to print? or do you want to use Viovio's book-building tool?

What abou tthe back cover?

by Lauren Wohl-Sanchez, Monday 30 of April, 2007 [19:07:51 UTC]
Seems like I always make the mistake of uploading my back cover along with the rest of my images, expecting a "back cover" option similar to the "front cover" option, where you can just select one of your gallery images and choose not to repeat the image inside your book. So inevitably, I get to that last part of my book-making process and have to go back and delete the back cover image from my gallery, recreate the book, and re-upload it specifically as a back cover. I think it would be helpful to either let people know this upfront, or make the back cover function work just like the front cover. Otherwise, other than it taking about a million years to upload and generate, works very well.

Thanks!

Lauren

If you load a back image and choose a die-cut hardcover option, where does that image go?

when you create the cover = look for the middle tab - not sure if it is advanced or images - that is where you load the back cover image.

Hi Lauren,

Yes, this has been on "The Big List of Things To Do" (TBLOTTD) for ages. Hopefully we'll get to it soon. Thanks for posting about it. It really does help when sorting TBLOTTD wink

I've tried to create a book, and have not found the option to upload a back cover anywhere! I get my front cover okay, but the back cover shows as black. What am I doing wrong?
