Creating a Product

Instructions for using the Product Builder to create products.

To create a product on Viovio start by going to your "My Account" page, which is a link in the upper right corner of the browser. Under the Products menu you will see links to
  • My Products
  • Create a Product
  • Upload a PDF

Select the Create a Product link. Regardless of the product you plan to create there are three steps you follow. Currently, you can create a photo book, upload a PDF, archival print, flicker bookr and go digital. We plan to roll out other product options soon, so watch this space!!

Choose Your Wizard

Creating a photo book.

Select the “Photo Book” button and you are taken to the BookMaker Options process. You can select one of your galleries and proceed through the BookMaker process. Look here for detailed instructions.

Uploading a PDF

Select the “Upload PDF” button and you are taken to the Add Files tab of the Viovio Product Builder. This is a three-step process much like creating a photo book from your gallery images. However, there are a few less options since you have already made several design decisions prior to uploading your PDF.

Step 1. Add Files

Depending on the option you chose, you will use the Viovio Bookmaker or PDF Upload Wizard to create your interior text.

Step 2. Cover Options

A low-resolution of your full cover is displayed. If you would like to view the high-res version of your cover simply select the Preview Hi-Resolution Cover link.

In this step there are 3 tabs. You have the option to make adjustments to your cover on each tab. You also can leave the defalt setting in place if you are happy. Let’s just walk through the options available with each tab.

Cover Text tab: Here you set the title text, title alignment, title font and size, author text, author alignment, author font and size as well as the top and bottom spine text. You can leave the gallery title as the book title and spine text or you can key different text for each. We offer a few different fonts for your title and spine text

Play around with the options it is fun to make a few changes to the font type as well as the font size.

Colors and Images tab: Here you can switch out the front cover image if you would like you can also set a back cover image. You can set the background color either by clicking the color square to the left of the background color field or if you know the hex color you want just key that number. Make sure the # sign remains in front. You can set the front text and spine text color using the same procedure.

Advanced tab: Here you are able to select a full wrap cover option. If your image would look nice as a full wrap cover simply click the check box. If you don’t like it because the image is too stretched out simply uncheck the box.
After your cover is set the way you want it to look click the “UPDATE COVER” button. When you are satisfied with your cover click the “NEXT” button to advance to step 3.

Step 3. Webstore Options

In this step you will make the following selections: Interior Book Color, Showing a Preview or not, Security or not, Linking to a travel location, availability of your book in the webstore. If you are a retail member you will set your commission here. So let’s go through a few of the options.
Interior Book Color: here you determine if you want us to print your interior as color or black & white. The black and white is not suitable for black and white images. This is a text option.

Show Preview: check the box if you would like to offer a low-res preview to your book.
Viovio #: This is a cool feature. If your pictures were taken say in Paris you can link them to Paris in the travel section. So when travelers search for Paris your book and images will display. Try it, you can always remove the number. Just click the search link to the right of the earth icon and you can search for the specific location where you pictures were taken. Travel #s look something like this 200000086. The Travel #s are located in the box “about this country”.

Security Level: set your security to public or create a security level with a password.
Available: check the box if you would like your book to show on the site in the general store.

Remove: you can remove the product from the webstore if it has not been purchased.

After you set up your product in the webstore click the “BUY NOW” button to advance to your shopping cart.

Congratulations you have created a book and listed it for sale!!!!!

Cart Options You are in your shopping cart

Your book’s price is displayed. Your interior pages will print on satin paper (80# Digital uncoated white). If you prefer gloss paper simply select the drop down arrow beside the Paper Options field (15% will be added to your book production cost). You can modify the number of books you would like to purchase by keying the number you prefer into the Add to Cart field.

You can move back to the previous stage by selecting the edit your book link If you select this link you are back to Step 3 of the process and all information in Step 3 applies.

You can verify the Image Gallery that is used to create the book, # of pages, book size, interior, and binding

You can purchase your photo book by selecting the ADD TO CART button.

When you select ADD TO CART you are taken to the next step within the shopping process. You can remove the item from your shopping cart, verify your paper option (satin or gloss), verify the cost of your book, and modify the number of pieces you prefer. You can obtain a shipping quote if you would like, as well as continue shopping.

If you are ready to move forward select the checkout button and you will move to the final stage of the checkout process. Here you verify the ship to address. Select the CHANGE ADDRESS button if you need to change the ship to address. Select your ship method and key any notes you think would be helpful during the production process. If you fail to select a ship method you will not be able to move forward with the process. Select CONTINUE to move to step 2 of the order process (choose your payment method).

from a happy costumer

Just felt like sharing my experiences, hoping others can learn from them and not go as nuts as I did a few times while I was making my photo-journal.

a) how to make your photobook if you have lots of text and pictures to put in it?
first of all, I am no lay-outer and I don't know how to work with photoshop. The website here states you can work with Powerpoint, but since I do not have that program at home, I decided to use Publisher, following the same rules.
So, if you want a book 8,5 x 8,5 - all you have to do is multiply that size by 3 and set that as page format in Publisher. You might want to add 0,25 for sofcover and then multiply the size by 3 for cutting and trimming.
Each page you make in Publisher, where you put text and photo's together, you should store it as a jpg and upload that page as a full bleed picture ... it comes out perfectly. I used Verdana 26 as font and I can guarrantee you it is fully readable.
if you want page numbers, you have to add them yourself. not much of a fun job, been there, done that :-)

b) what about colours
here's something I fretted over seriously.
I had a friend of mine warning me for RGB and CMYK colour issues. Meaning : what you get on your screen doesn't look like the print you will get. I have ordered a testbook with 35 pages (the full book has 130) to get the same binding as the final copy would, and to see what would happen to the colours if I left everything the way it was. Mind you, I oreded an item through a different online shop, had a photo printed on a wooden box and that photo had the most aweful green layer over it. None of that was the case here.

the background indeed shows a slight difference, nothing too drastical tho'. But the pictures ... my goodness I was stunned to see how good they came out !!! the colours are chrystal clear, I don't see much difference to what I had on my screen when I made the book. Even the ones that had lower resolution than the requiered 300 kb ... well, just don't put them on the page extremely large. If it shows clear on your screen, it'll look clear in the print.

I had a few darker ones taken at concerts (U2-concerts) where everything was black, and adjusted the brighness with 5% ... trust me, whatever you see on your screen is what it will show like in your photobook.

c) paper and cover
I absolutely love the paper viovio uses to print on. I love the weight of the pages, not too thick, not too thin, easily turnable pages yet strong enough to go through it I dunno-how-many-times.
I hate super glossy paper that gives you trouble reading when you are in the sun or in too much light. This paper has a soft elegant glaze over it, I love it.

yeah, very satisfied costumer here :-)

8.5 x 3 = 25.5 inches is the size you have use for your page setting in Publisher.
I know, it looks absurdly large, but it wrorks perfectly. When your publisher page is ready, save it, and then save it under the same name but as a jpg. Your jpg will hold your text AND your photo's, and believe me, photo quality won't drop. You'll have the perfect picture to be printed full bleed.

Well, make that 8,75 x 3 to include cutting and trimming.
And I think if you want hardcover, you'll have to add another 0.25 - I still have to test that.

A blank page ? set up the same publisher file, but leave it empty and store it as a jpg. The result will be a completely white photo, perfect to add blanc pages.

I am using Viovio for the first time and trying to create my first book. I truly hope it works because I am a photographing fanatic. I think this is so much better than photo albums. My question, Tina, is about applying text. I do a lot of work in adobephotoelements. You used Publisher to apply text. I do not understand what you mean by multiplying the 8.5 X 8.5 three times. I am making a book that is 65 pages and is 8.5 X 8.5. Plus I want to add a blank inside the cover page. I am not sure how to do that either. Any ideas?
