If you want to print a PDF from iPhoto here are the recommended steps
1. Create a custom "Paper Size" in the File -> Page Setup menu. Thisshould be 9.25"x7.25", and the Orientation should be the guy standing up
(choice on the left). Select that paper size and click OK.
2. Select File -> Print. I would upload the front cover as a separate
document. Set Pages: From 2 to ' ', and then choose PDF -> Save As PDF.
This will print just the inside of the book.
3. Select File -> Print. I would upload the front cover as a separate
document. Set Pages: From 1 to 1, and then choose PDF -> Save As PDF.
This will print just the inside the cover.
iPhoto organizes your images locally, and has a built in book maker.
Alternate PDF Sizes
Here are a few steps to create a iPhoto book PDF in a size other than the defaults used in the iPhoto bookmaking process. It requires Adobe Acrobat Professional.
- Save the iPhoto pdf from iPhoto (File => Print - "Save as PDF" button in dialog box)
- Open the saved PDF file in Acrobat and save it as a postscript file (File=>Print - "Save as poscript" file) In page setup, a scaling of around 85% will reduce the document and 11x8.5 size to 9 x 7 with bleed)
- Then create a PDF from the postscript file using Acrobat Distiller.

iPhoto portfolio book
Re: iPhoto portfolio book
You can just use your iPhoto PDF. We have several creators who use iPhoto to create the PDF and then upload the PDF to Viovio for printing. I would use a theme with a white background.
I say that because we recommend that your file be .25 larger than the final trim size for bleed. The iPhoto file is exactly 11x8.5, so if you have a dark background then when we trim your book you may see a tiny bit of white on the sides.
Also, you could try this to see if it would work in terms of scaling the PDF up. Save the iPhoto PDF from iPhoto (print - save as pdf) and open the PDF in acrobat and save as a postscript file (print-save as poscript file). In page setup set the scaling to around 120% (may need to tweak this %) to increase the document size to 14x11 with bleed), than create a PDF from the postscript file in distiller. There is no need to scale the file if you would like to create an 11x8.5 on Viovio.

Re: iPhoto portfolio book
Viovio does a nice 9x7 soft cover book. And you can find the upload dimensions necessary for a 14x11 Portfolio book here.
Printing PDFs from iPhoto, can't add the extra .25 inch
Is it possible for you to print the PDF at 105% or something or a way to fix this in Acrobat?
Thanks for your help
Re: Printing PDFs from iPhoto, can't add the extra .25 inch
The good news is just go ahead and upload the file! We have a new option that will auto-correct the PDF and scale it for you. Once uploaded, you will see a warning and a big button to fix it on the product edit page (Step 3).

How do you export iPhoto books to Viovio
Re: How do you export iPhoto books to Viovio
If you're printing a 9 x 7 softcover and want to use the cover created in iPhoto you can do this:
1. While in your book, pick File > Print.
2. Click the Advanced button and select from 1 to 1
3. Click the PDF menu and pick Save PDF to iPhoto. A workflow will run and it'll save a copy of the cover page as a .jpg in iPhoto. You'll get a dialog box that asks where you want to save it in iPhoto — you can create a new album or put it in an existing one. If you don't see the dialog box, close all your windows--sometimes it gets buried behind stuff.
You can then export the file from iPhoto (File > Export) and upload it to Viovio. Hope that helps.
