However, there has been a similar house on the site since at least 1770 when it is
portrayed in the catalogue of the nearby Barmeath estate. There have been some recent sympathetic additions in the from of a two bay wing to the east, set back form the major facade of the house.
The house is located 6 miles north of Drogheda, Co Louth, Ireland. It was the home of the Gannon family from late 1800's until the early 1970's, the most well known of whom was Judge Frank Roe, a well known barrister, judge and jockey.
Otto Nielsen a Dane, took over the house and yard in the mid 1970's and together with his Irish wife opened a riding stables which thrived for some years until the property was sold to a Dublin businessman William Smith. The property was farmed for several years however the house (uninhabited) quickly became derelict. Plans were at an advanced stage to level the house and build a modern house on the site when an engineer Raymond Gogan purchased the property in 1985. Gogan spent the next five years refurbishing the house focusing on the structural integrity. The work carried out by Gogan insured the house survived into the new millennium and with the now renewed interest in old properties it is likely the house will be preserved for many years to come.
Michael Kerr purchased Kiltallaght in 1991, Kerr completed the interior decorative work prior to selling on the property. Kiltallaght was then purchased as an investment vehicle for a local organisation prior to being sold to its current owners who have completed a major extension as described above.
