A polder in Netherlands, Europe.
The Munnikenland van Westmaas is part of the Hoekse Waard. It is located in the southern part of the main land of the province Zuid-Holland, south of Rotterdam. It is part of the municipality of Binnenmaas.
The name of the polder suggets that monks either diked the polder or initiated the diking of this polder.
The polder was diked in 1411 as part of the Grote Waard. The main part of the Grote Waard was flooded by the St. Elisabethfloods of 1421 and 1424. The devastation was such, that most of the Grote Waard remained flooded. In 1439 Munnikenwaard was one of the first polders to be diked again after the flood.
