The island of Noirmoutier is part of the Vendée region of France. Inhabited with a population of approximately 9,600, this island boasts 40 km of gently sloped and finely sanded beaches. The beaches of Noirmoutier are complete with secluded bays, sand dunes, creeks, maritime pines, and quaint windmills and sheds along the shorelines. Inland one will find salt marshes and producers. This island is known for its salt, thus a tour of one of the salt producers is a must do. Other sights to see include the Boise de la Chaize, the Passage du Gois, and the Castle.
