Nancy is situated in Eastern France and is famous for its Stanilas Square, whose 250th anniversary is being celebrated in 2005. The event is called "Nancy 2005, The Age of Enlightenment." Stanilas Square, an 18th century architectural masterpiece, was selected by Unesco to be a World Heritage site. Nancy is a large town with a population of over 300,000, yet it retains a homely feel. It boasts many features akin to a major metropolis such as universities, arhcitectural heritage, history, artistic facilities, and sports. Visitors to Nancy should engage the local culture through museums, parks and gardens, gastronomic specialties, and sightseeing.
