General Information

How much do they cost?

For exact pricing on each trim size please see our Product Catalog. In general, for softcover books the base price for creation, set up and binding is $4.99, then each page costs $.25. For example, a 20 page photo book will cost $9.99 and a huge 100 page photo book will only cost $29.99! The price is the same regardless of the book size you choose, or if you full bleed the pictures or not. For more details, see Product Catalog

How big are they?

We offer several trim sizes. Check out our Book Binding Specifications page.

What do the pages look like?

The interior paper has a satin feel (you can select photo silk if you prefer). Print quality is outstanding! Colors in your printed book will look different than images on your screen because there is a difference between ink colors and screen colors.

What do the covers look like?

The covers are beautiful. They are full color, laminated on heavy coverstock paper, and the binding is "perfect bound." Our photo books look just like a soft-bound coffee table book you would find at your local book store.

What size should I make my photos?

The minimum recommended size for Photo Books is 2 megapixels (1600x1200). However, the larger the image, the more crisp the photo book pages will appear. A 4 or 5 megapixel image will create a beautiful, full page print for all photo book sizes. Going to even higher resolutions has a small noticeable increase in quality.

Where does Page 1 appear?

by patience sayler, Mon 18 of Mar, 2013 (04:00 UTC)
Does Page 1 of my template appear opposite the inside of the front cover, or is Page 1 and Page 2 opposite each other in the first full pair of pages?

Re: Where does Page 1 appear?

Hi Patience!

For all of our books, the first page of the interior file always prints on the right, just like a novel. We don't print on the inside of either the front or back cover. Here is a link to a picture of how this looks: http://www.viovio.com/photos/image/1983/135/132/133

This is very important to note when uploading a PDF and selecting the upload specs. If page one of your PDF is pulled off to be the cover, then what you intent to be page two of your PDF will become page one of your interior book file (falling on the right). This will throw off the pagination of the remainder of your book.

If you create your entire book as 2 page spreads and upload it correctly. Page one will begin on the right side of the page and the pagination of the book will not be correct either. You will need to create an single page at the beginning to lead off your spreads - this will ensure correct pagination of your project.

Keep this in mind when creating 2-page spreads and uploading pdf's.

You can always review your projects pagination at Step 3 in the Layout Preview to ensure it's correctness.

Kind regards,

Photo Book Proof

by Hillary, Sun 29 of Apr, 2012 (03:05 UTC)
How much would it cost to get a proof of my book before I order multiple copies? And how could I order a proof?

Re: Photo Book Proof

by Viovio Support, Mon 30 of Apr, 2012 (16:45 UTC)
Hillary,

Greetings from Viovio!

With large orders we greatly suggest that you let us send you a single proof copy of the order. This will give you the opportunity to review your margins, image quality, spelling, etc, before committing to the whole of the order. You can accomplish this 2 ways - 1: You can place the order as a whole with an order note stating that you wish to receive a single proof copy of the order." Or you can simply place an order for a single book and use this as your proof.

If you place the order as a whole and request a single proof copy then once you have reviewed your proof you will have the option to make changes to the project if you desire, and then approve your order for production. This will ensure you know exactly what you will receive when production is completed!

If you have any further questions please let us know!

Best,

curious

by Carole, Tue 17 of Apr, 2012 (23:08 UTC)
textHi!
I have just spent the last four years working with my husband, while living in a B Double truck the whole time, we transported goods all over Australia, during that time, I wrote my autobiography and published it myself at a local printer in a spiral binder, it went well.
however I have also written about our journey in the truck more so short stories of our humourous adventures with lots of photos, so this time I would like to present it better, I was looking through your book choices and came across the A4 size, this one appeals to me as there is quite a bit of writing, would this size be suitable for me to incorporate photos and stories, thank you.

regards
Carole

Wedding guest book

by Matt and Ruth, Tue 21 of Feb, 2012 (19:38 UTC)
Hi. I'd like to order a photo book to use as our wedding guest book. I plan to leave plenty of white space on the pages so our guests can sign it. Can we use regular pens or markers on the premium paper? Thanks!

Best ratio for photos

by Peter Campbell, Sun 04 of Dec, 2011 (21:59 UTC)
Hi Team, I have just purchased a new camera which allows me to select the ratio size for the photos that I 'll take. It can be 16:9 or 4:3 ( plus others). I understand that the 16:9 ratio will be best when displaying my photos on a widescreen TV . I'm just checking if that ration ( 16:9 ) will reproduce well in the printed books that you do. If I set the camera to the 16:9 ration is there an optimum book size that I should use for Viovio to make my books. Hope this makes sense. Kind regards Peter

Re: Best ratio for photos

by Viovio Support, Mon 05 of Dec, 2011 (21:31 UTC)
Hi Peter,

Our 3:2 ratio is our widest ratio, but unfortunately has the fewest books choices. Our advice would be to choose the ratio on your camera that offers the maximum pixel dimensions. Most sensors in cameras are either 3:2 (professional) or 4:3 (consumer). The 16:9 and 3:2 ratios on many cameras are frequently just a cropped 4:3 image - so it is actually *smaller* than a 4:3. It would be best to capture as many pictures as possible, and then decide on your own cropping later. Check your camera manual for details, and take a few examples to check.

Does that help?
