Jon,
We do not re-size any images. What you've experienced is the aggressive trim which is unavoidable when accomplishing a binding of this small size.
Ideally a 7x5 project will be sized 7.25x5.25 with all backgrounds extending to full amount of the page - then all vital content be kept within 1" of all sides.

How to Avoid Unwanted Resizing?

I gather from your comments that my images will be resized regardless, so I need to allow for that when readying my images. Is that right? It would help me if you would state explicitly that it is or is not an option to request that my book be printed "as is," with no rescaling.
That said, I appreciate the suggested mini-book margins. You said an inch on all sides works well.
To clarify, do you mean ...

To clarify, do you mean ...
- an inch in from suggested size 7.25 x 5.25, resulting in active image space 5.25 x 3.25, or
- an inch in from printed page size 7 x 5, resulting in active image space 5 x 3?
Thanks for the clarification!

Greetings from Viovio!
There is an automatic trim that occurs during production to ensure that all pages are flush. This trim is approximately 1/8 inch on all sides for a standard size book (any book 9x7 or larger). For mini books, like the 5x7 the trim is much more aggressive. This is needed to accomplishing the binding on such a small size. The trim in mini books (any book smaller than a 9x7) is .5"
Due to the potential for shifting etc that can occur during print runs, for a standard size book we suggest that all vital content is kept within .25" from all sides, and consider this the Caution Area. We do not guarantee any content that is not within the Red crop guide (.25") / Caution area. The Caution Area for a mini book is .75" - This means that all non vital content and backgrounds be extended all the way to the edge of the page, while all vital content (faces, text etc.) be kept within .75" of the edge. For me personally, with mini-books I pull my back grounds to the edge and keep my vital content a full inch from all the sides. This produces a more aesthetically pleasing result.
Here is a great screencast that will explain all of our crop-guides: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8Ksz1k8Djs&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
You can view your project in reference to the crop guides most accurately at the Layout Preview in Step 3:
For the Layout Preview:
(The crop guides are able to be viewed or removed by simply clicking or un-clicking the "Show Crop Guides" at the top left of the preview.)
The Red crop guide is for standard size projects (9x7 or larger)
The Pink crop guide is for mini-books (anything smaller than a 9x7)
For the Flip Preview:
The Flip preview offers 1 single yellow crop guide that is both the Red and pink crop-guide combined, and is therefore more aggressive than necessary for standard size books. For most accurate crop guides when considering your work, please use the Layout Preview
If you have any further questions please let us know and we'll do our best to help.

How to Avoid Unwanted Resizing?
Posted:Tue 07 of Aug, 2012 (03:13 UTC)Last year I purchased two print runs of a 7x5 mini-book. I'd very much like to print more copies but I want to avoid unwanted resizing found in both the prior print runs.
My book contains drawings, not photos, so I want comfortable, blank margins on every page; I don't want images running up to the edges. When preparing my images I sized to allow my desired minimum margin.
I used the Book Designer to construct my mini-book.
I was disappointed to find that in print my images were enlarged by as much as 120%, eliminating the desired margin. I even reduced the size of my images for the second run, increasing the margin from 0.25 to 0.5 inches on all sides but resizing still occurred. In fact, there was no discernible difference between the two print runs. In both editions the images ran close to the edges of the pages.
Please, how can I avoid this unwanted resizing in the next print run?
Thanks in advance for your very welcome assistance!
