I'd take a look see at the General Photography Templates: http://www.viovio.com/designer/list_templates.php?theme_id=6 These have larger blocks and would be more suited to lend themselves to magazine designer. You also have the option to leave the image drop-zone out and put text there instead - All you will need to do to accomplish this is, If you click inside the drop zone and then click on "Add Caption", the drop zone will disappear, whether you add text there or not.
