Drag and Drop Caption Editing is here!
Re: Drag and Drop Caption Editing is here!
Posted:Mon 29 of Jun, 2009 (18:04 UTC)Hi Christian,
Very nice! I just fixed all my existing captions without any problems. I haven't tried making new ones yet, but if you don't hear from me it will be safe to assume that I haven't run into more trouble.
Now let's see if I can finally finish my first album :-).
thanks for all your help,
Wouter

I can't really say what makes it happen... because it happens to all of them now. However, because you have set the minimum with to 18 I can see more of what is going on.
The y coordinates of top and bottom work fine.
The x coordinates are, whenever I try to change something, set to left=0 and right=something, where I guess that something is 18 because that's what you said the minimum has been set to. So it looks like whatever it is that takes the white marker's coordinates gets the y-coordinates correctly but gets 0 for the x-coordinates, after which x_right is set to 18 to obtain the minimum width.
I have not managed to make any new captions that do not end up being 18 points wide and stuck at the left edge of the page.

Keep it coming!
For some reason, the width of captions are getting set to zero in the UI. We have put in a fix to make sure width's are at least 18 points when saved, however we are still trying to figure out how the UI is setting a zero width (something to do with the drag box). Let us know if you figure how to consistently get the caption to shrink to the minimum width (what used to cause it to "go away"). We are still looking into this.
Btw, check the caption on your second to last page, I edited to "Test" when I tried to add a new caption - another thing we are looking at...
Thanks for all the great feedback.

I glad I can be of help. And I'm going to keep it coming already...
During my first test after you posted the fix, I managed to move a caption and everything seemed to behave very nicely.
The I tried to add a new caption, and since then I'm in trouble.
While the new caption shows up nicely in the list of items (to the right of the page preview), the actual caption is nowhere to be seen on the page, even after completely leaving and going back into the book designer. I checked that it is not accidentally the same color as the background.. also there is no clickable area as there should be for any caption for the purpose of editing it.
To make things worse, trying to edit another existing caption now leads to a similar effect: I click edit, then save, and every now and then this has the effect of making the entire caption go away. It's still in the list of items on the right, but not on the page itself. I managed to make most captions on the last 3 pages of my book disappear that way. If I click them again after they disappeared, the editor opens but there is no white placing marker on the page so I don't get a chance to correct it.
Can you check at what coordinates that new caption has been placed? It sort of looks like the fixing of the previous bug has introduced a new one.
thanks again,
Wouter

Re: Drag and Drop Caption Editing is here!
Posted:Wed 10 of Jun, 2009 (14:32 UTC)Hello!
I am having the same problem with positioning the caption box. In my case, the box tends to stay to the left side of the page no matter what I do. I have tried these combinations:
Windows 98 with Firefox 3.0.10
Windows 2000 with Firefox 3.0.10
Windows 2000 with IE8.0
I also noticed that I can't drop pictures onto the templates or add captions once in a while, so I need to refresh the page often.
Please let us know if you find out more.
Thank you.

Posted:Tue 09 of Jun, 2009 (19:03 UTC)Let me give you another very simple way in which this bug displays itself. If I take an existing caption in my photo album, click on it to open the editor, and then immediately click save without changing anything, the caption ends up in a different place (usually to the right of where it was before). That shouldn't happen, right?
thanks for looking into it.

Re: Drag and Drop Caption Editing is here!
Posted:Wed 03 of Jun, 2009 (20:45 UTC)There is not one particular caption which is causing me trouble. For every caption that I try to make, even when the white marker is way bigger than the size of the caption I am making, the resulting caption ends up being bounded by a very different box, usually bigger than the white marker, and usually moved to the right. If the caption was close to the right hand side of the page, this often leads to the clickable area (after saving) of the caption overlapping with the "Add Caption" button so that I can only add another caption if I move this one first. The fact that the boxes end up sticking out of the page makes moving them by a few pixels impossible, because the white marker is constrained to fall within the page, so as soon as one tries to move it it is moves as far left as necessary to make it fall within the page again. Please look at page 42 of the book I am editing to see what I mean. It doesn't seem to be a browser issue to me... the bad stuff happens between clicking save and the appearance of the refreshed page, and I'm having the issue both in Firefox and Safari.
If it's a problem with the template I'm using, please let me know. Thanks for your help.
