Lighthouse Facts

  • The diamond pattern on Cape Lookout (pictured above) is meant to indicate direction. The side points of the black diamonds point in a north-south direction, while the side points of the white diamonds point east-west.

  • The Boston Light was the first lighthouse to be built in the U.S. in 1716.

  • The Ile Vierge is the tallest traditional lighthouse in the world.

Hi, Miranda!

Viovio picks the top 10 photos to be voted on - the photos weren't rejected because they didn't receive votes, we just narrowed the pool down to the top 10.

That said, I see your point, I agree that "Rejected" is a bit harsh - we should probably just fade out the ones that didn't make it to the voting stage. I will talk to our engineering team about that!

Hmmm... I did not participate in this contest, but am enjoying looking at the photos. However, I wonder how I'd feel if I had participated and saw a big "REJECTED" stamp over my photo because it did not receive any of the (very few) cast votes. How about changing that Viovio people? Really unnecessary. How about stamping nothing over top? We can see they don't have any votes by the absence of a number in the corner.
